Meredith Salenger
Salenger grew up in Malibu. She enjoyed performing for her family and friends when she was a young child. She was taken by her mother to her first class in acting when she was just eight years old. The first part she played was just a tiny part of a 'singing and dancing orphan for the feature film Annie directed by John Huston. Salenger also did a number ads on TV. Salenger was cast as the lead in The Journey of Natty Gann by Disney, which starred John Cusack alongside Ray Wise. The film received the Moscow Film Festival's gold award as the very first film made by Americans. In addition, she won "Best Female actress in a film" in the Youth in Film Awards in the recognition of her character as the tomboyish Natty. After appearing in four other movies by the time she turned 18 and also in A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon and A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, she quit Hollywood to go to Harvard to pursue her studies.
